This vehicle is built from half of a large plastic Easter Egg. The egg is about 9 cm wide, 13 cm long and 5 cm tall. It was primarily built because I was bored one evening and sat fiddling with various things that were lying around, trying to find something to make. The Hovercraft is the result. The skirts are made from blueboard, marked out and then shaped with a foam cutter. The engine pods are halves of smaller eggs, with model tank bogies attached; the 'whirling propellers' are simply circles of clear plastic. I originally tried to cut lines to mark out the windshield, but that didn't work very well. The thin styrene plastic (about the thickness of notebook paper) covered the scars and defined the windshield rather nicely. Hatches were made from the same plastic and were fitted with handles from 17 gauge wire. The wire antenna on top is removable and I intend to make a few parts to swap out for it, such as a machine gun and a small radar dish. Depending on the game, it will work as a hovertruck or mobile command/scout vehicle. Scenario ideas including it might be: take out the enemy command unit in a behind the lines strike, ambush the supply truck, etc. It should make interesting scenery as well if someone just left it parked in the wrong spot ... |
