Daniel McNair Martin

Daniel McNair Martin owned and operated The Martin Inn in Bellefonte.

Daniel McNair Martin sent his daughter to Texas to become a school teacher in the mid-1860's and wrote a series of letters to her during this period.  Luckily the letters stayed in the family and chronicle the events of Bellefonte during the mid-1860's.  Very interesting reading to say the least.

Daniel McNair Martin is actually buried not far from where the old chimney stands.  I visited there about 2 years ago during the summer.  Unfortunately, there was too much overgrowth to wade through to get to the graves.  Sadly the community has let the old grave yard be reclaimed by nature so the only time one can access the grave yard is during the winter months.

The lumber business, located next to the chimney, has a picture of the inn hung on it's wall.  Pretty neat reminder of the history of the property.
(note: the old Bellefonte Cemetery has been cleaned since the time this email was written)
