Using Calculator Projects

Project 2-1

1.  Open a new Notepad document; then key the following text:

                Sales for 9/16:

            Department A =

            Department B =

            Department C =

            Department D =

2.  Open the standard calculator.

3.  Compute the sum for each of the departments listed below and copy them to the Notepad document using the following steps:

  1. Compute the sum for Department A.
  2. Copy the sum to the Clipboard.
  3. Make Notepad active and paste the sum for Department A after the equal sign on the appropriate line in the document.
  4. Return to Calculator.
  5. Clear the Calculator window.
  6. Repeat the procedure above until you have pasted the sum of each department’s sales in the appropriate place in the Notepad document.

4. Insert a comma in the proper location in the total for Department D.  Add a zero to represent 40 cents in the Department D total.

5.  Format all money entries correctly. (Put dollar signs in front of money entries.)

6. Save the Notepad document as Department Sales lastnameinitial to 2 places.

 

Project 2-2

1.  Open a new Notepad document and key the following text:

Part-time Hourly Employees

            Payroll for Week of 12/8

 

            Shirley Candelaria

            Rate/hour:      15.50

            # of hours:      19

            Total Pay =

 

            Maria  Feeney

            Rate/hour:      12.00

            # of hours:      20

            Total Pay =

 

            Albert Cho

            Rate/hour:      15.00

            # of hours:      18

            Total Pay =

 

            Total All Employees for Week of 12/8 =

2.  Open the Standard Calculator.

3.  Compute the week’s wages for Shirley Candelaria.

4.  Click the M+ button to add the number to the Calculator memory.

5.  Copy the number and paste it in the Notepad document.

6. Repeat the procedure for the other two employees, making sure to add each total to memory before copying it to the Notepad document.

7.  After pasting the Total Pay for Albert Cho, return to the Calculator window.

8.  Click the MR button to display the sum of all salaries.

9.  Copy the amount and paste it in the Notepad document.

10.  Format all money answers correctly.

11.  Put the standard school heading at the top of the page.

13. Go to Page Setup in the File menu.  Make sure that all the settings are the default settings. 

14.  Key your name in for the header.  Key in the code to place the header on the left. You must put the code for the left alignment before your name.

15. Key footer codes that will print the time and the date centered at the bottom of the page.  Put a space between the time and the date.

15. Save the document as Part-Timers lastnameinitial to 2 places.

16. Print the Part-Timers document. Record that you printed with the name of this file on your work habits paper.

 

Project 2-3

1.  Open the Scientific Calculator and display the Statistics window.

2.  Start Notepad and open the Department Sales file that you created in Project 2-1.

3. Adjust the size of the Notepad window so that it is just big enough to display the text.

4. Arrange the Notepad, Calculator, and Statistics Box windows so that all three are visible on the desktop.

5. Follow these procedures to compute the total and average sales for all departments.

    1. Make the Notepad window active.
    2. Copy the total sales for Department A.
    3. Make the Calculator window active.
    4. Paste the figure in the Calculator display.
    5. Click the Dat button to insert the number in the Statistics Box.
    6. Return to Notepad and follow these same steps to add the figures for Departments B, C, and D.

6. When the Department D number has been inserted in the Statistics box, click the Sum button in the Calculator to display the sum of the four numbers.

7. Copy the amount in the Calculator display.

8.  Make Notepad the active window.

9. Position the cursor at the end of the document, press Enter, then key Total Sales =

10. Paste the number.  (The sum should be 5243.69)

11. Make the Calculator the active window.

12. Click Ave to display the average of the numbers in the Statistics Box.

13. Copy the amount in the Calculator display.

14. Make Notepad the active window.

15. Position the cursor at the end of the document, press Enter, then key Average Sales =

16. Paste the number. (The average should be 1310.9225)

17. Delete the decimal point and decimal places in the Average Sales amount.

18. Add commas in the proper location for both new numbers.

19. Save the Notepad file in two places as Total Department Sales lastnameinitial

20. Format all money entries correctly.

20. Go to Page Setup in the File menu.  Make sure that all the settings are the default settings. 

21.  Key header codes that will print the file name centered between the right and left margins.  Also have the words File Name appear before the file name.

22.  Key footer codes that will print the filename and the date on the right side of the page.  Separate the filename and the date with an ampersand.

23. Proof read your document in Print Preview.  Print and save the file.

24. Record that you printed with the name of this file on your work habits paper.
