Friday Welcome Dance Notes - April 20

Hollin Buss                        8 x 32 Jig
1-4    Cpls 1 & 2 advance and retire
5-8    Cpls 1 & 2 giving right hand advance and just pass partners, then join hands in a wheel, dance 4 hands across half round.
9-16    Repeat bars 1-8 , giving left hands throughout back to place
17-24    Cpl 1 join both hands and slip step down the middle and back
25-28    Cpl 1 set, cast into 2nd place on own sides, cpl 2 stepping up
29-32    Cpls 1 & 2 turn partners right hands

Maxwell's Rant                        8 x 32 Reel
1-8    Cpl 1 dance reel of 3 on opposite sides, L1 giving left shoulder to M3, M1 right shoulder to L3 to start
9-16    Repeat reel of 3 on own side
17-20    Cpl 1 cross by the right, cast. Cpl 2 move up
21-24    Cpl 1 dance half fig 8 round cpl 2 to end on own side in 2nd place
25-28    Cpl 1 lead down between cpl 3 and cast up into 2nd place
29-32    Cpls 2, 1, 3 turn partners by the right

Sands of Morar                        8 x 32 Strathspey
1-8    Cpl 1 dance a figure of 8 around cpl 2, giving right hands crossing down and left hands when crossing back.
9-16    Cpls 1 , 2 and 3 dance reels of 3 on own side, joining nearer hands with partner when possible. Cpl 1 dance in and down to begin.
17-20    Cpl 1 turn with both hands and retaining nearer hands dance down to 3rd place. Cpl 2 dance out and up to 1st place and, joining nearer hands dance down to 2nd place to finish in the middle behind 1st Cpl. Cpl 3 dance in to give nearer hands and up and out to 1st place to finish in the middle behind cpl 2. All 3 cpls are in the middle of the set facing down
21-22    All 3 cpls set
23-24    Cpl 1 cast up to 1st place while cpl 2 following them cast up to 2nd place and cpl 3 dance down to 3rd place
25-32    Cpls 1 and 2 dance the Tourbillon

Tribute to the Borders                    8 x 32 Jig
1-4    Cpl 1 cross by the right, cast to 2nd place on opposite side. Cpl 2 step up (3-4).
5-8    Cpl 1 turn by the right 1 1/4 times to finish in promenade hold facing M2.
9-12    Cpl 1 dance half reel of three with M2 and M3.
13-16    Cpl 1 dance half reel of three with L3 and L2, finish facing L3 (in first position).
17-22    Cpl 1 set to L3, L2, M2 turning 1/4 on second bar of setting.
23-24    Cpl 1 set to M3 WHILE cpls 3 & 2 set advancing to finish 3,1,2 facing up in center of set ready for
25-32    Cpls 3, 1, 2 allemande

Let's Have a Ceilidh                    4 x 32 Reel
1-8    Cpls 1 & 4 cross and cast (cpl 1 down, cpl 4 up); LH across once round to face corner person around whom they cast.
9-16    All set, change places RH, set, change places LH.
17-24    Cpls 1 & 4 RH across and LH back WHILE corners dance counter clockwise around set. All end on sides, in line order: 2,1,4,3.
25-32    All set; Cpls 1 and 4 turn partner RH 3/4, L1 and M4 turn LH 1/2 WHILE partners dance clockwise around them; cpl 1 & cpl 4 turn partners RH back to place.

Barbara’s Strathspey                    8 x 32 Strathspey
1-4    Cpl 1 set and cast off one place (Cpl 2 step up on 3 and 4)
5-8    M1 dances ½ figure of 8 around cpl 2 while L1 dances ½ figure of 8 around cpl 3.
9-12    Cpls 2 1 and 3 set and cpl 1 cross, passing by the right
13-16    M2 and M1, L1 and L3 turn by the right 1 ½ times.
17-20    M1 and L3 and M2 and L1 set advancing and turn 2 hands 3/4 finishing back to back in middle with men facing down and women facing up. At the same time L2 and M3 dance clockwise round the set. Finish facing partners up and down the middle in order 3 1 2
21-24    Cpls 3 1 2 set and turn 2 hands to own sides.
25-32    Cpls 3 1 and 2 dance clockwise ½ way round and, giving right hands to partner, ½ turn to finish in middle of set facing partners. Cpls 2 1 and 3 pull back by the right and dance out to own sides

Roaring Jelly                        8 x 32 Jig
1-4    Cpl 1 cross and cast. Cpl 2 step up.
5-8    Cpl 1 cross & cast to their right finishing 1st man in top place between cpl 2 & 1st lady in 3rd place between cpl 3.
9-16    Circle 6 hands round and back
17-24    Cpl 1 passing right shoulders dance a fig of 8, woman around cpl 2, man around cpl 3 finishing in 2nd place on opposite sides.
25-32    Reels of 3 passing 2nd corner by the right to begin and crossing over to own sides on last 2 bars.

Peat Fire Flame                        8 x 40 Reel
1-6    Cpl 1 cast, dance half a figure of 8 around cpl 2 finishing in 2nd place on opposite side.
7-8    Cpl 1 turn by the left to face 1st corners.
9-12    Cpl 1 turn corners by the right , pass each other by the right to face 2nd corners.
13-16    Cpl 1 turn 2nd corners by the left, pass each other by the left to face 1st corners again.
17-20    Dance half reel of 4 with first corners, pass each other left.
21-24    Dance half reel of 4 with second corners finishing facing first corners.
25-28    Set to 1st corners, dance round each other to the right to face 2nd corners.
29-32    Set to 2nd corners, dance round each other to the right to 2nd place on the sides, man facing out on the ladies’ side and lady facing out on the men’s side.
33-36    Cpls 2 and 3 dance half rights and lefts while cpl 1 cast to their right to the top and bottom and into the center of the set.
37-40    Cpl 1 turn by the right 1 1/4 while cpls 2 and 3 turn by the right.

INTERMISSION

Montreal Rendezvous                    8 x 32 Reel
1-8    Cpl 1 dance down to 3rd place nearer hands joined and turn cpl 3 with outside hand to finish in 2nd place . Cpl 1 cross passing right shoulders and turns cpl 2 to meet at the top nearer hands joined.
9-16    Cpl 1 dances down middle to 3rd place and turns cpl 3 with outside hands to finish in 2nd place. Cpl 1 cross passing right shoulders and turns cpl 2 to finish in original places.
17-20    Cpl 1 set and cast one place. Cpl 2 step up.
21-32    Cpls 2 1 and 3 dance rights and lefts for 3 cpls

Christine M Phillips                    8 x 32Jig
1- 8    Cpl 1 set advancing and right hands joined, dance down, crossing below cpl 3, casting up and turning by the left to face 2nd corners.
9-12    Cpl 1 dance ½ reel of four with 1st corners finishing facing 1st corners
13-16    Cpl 1 turn 1st corners by the right, partner by the left to face 2nd corners.
17-20    Cpl 1 dance ½ reel of four with 2nd corners finishing facing 2nd corners
21-24    Cpl 1 turn 2nd corners by the right, partner by the left finishing ready for...
25-28    M1 with cpl 3 at the top and L1 with cpl 2 at the bottom dance right hands across
29-32    Cpl 1 turn by the left to 2nd place on own side while the corners dance clockwise ½ way round the set to place

Miss Milligan’s Strathspey                    8 x 32 Strathspey
1-4    Cpls 1 and 2 dance 4 hands once round finishing cpl 1 facing down, cpl 2 facing up nearer hands joined.
5-6    Cpls 1 and 2 set, cpl 1 turning in to face up.
7-8    Cpl 1 cast off to 2nd place while cpl 2 dance up to first place and face out.
9-16    Reels of 3 on own sides joining hands where possible.
17-18    Cpls 2, 1 and 3 set.
19-20    Cpls 2 and 1 turn by the left ½ way to finish facing down.
21-24    Cpl 1 followed by cpl 2 lead down, cross below cpl 3 and cast original place.
25-32    Cpls 1 and 2 dance the Knot.

Balgeddie Reel                        5 x 32 Reel
1-4    M1 and M3 pas de basque, turn on spot hands on hips.
5-8    L1 and L3 dance toward partner then away.
9-16 L1 & L3 followed by M1 & M3 cast 1 place, dance up between couple above, cast on
         men's side, side couples moving up, curve around to take right hands with first corner
         joining left hands.
17-24    Balance in line, dance to 2nd corners, balance in line, cpls 1 &3 half turn into
25-32    Rt hands across, ladies up, men down, side couples in; cpls 1 & 3 half turn by left cast off 1 place, side couples moving up.

White Heather Jig                    4 x 40 Jig
1-8    Cpl 1 turn by the right, cast down 1, cpl 2 move up
    turn by the left to finish between cpl 2 ready for
9-16    reel of four across, 1s finish facing first corner
17-24    corner, partner, corner, partner, finish 1s facing cpl 3 ready for
25-32    reel of four across; cpl 3 finish in 2nd place
33-40    cpl 1 turn by the left, cast down 1 place (cpl 4 move up), 1s turn into place

Bratach Bana                        8 x32 Reel
1-8    Cpl 1 turn by the right, cast; dance half fig. 8, L up, M down.
9-16    Half reels of three on opposite side; half reels of three across (L1 down, M1 up).
17-24    Cpl 1 turn by the left, turn first corner person by the right, pass partner right shoulder, turn 2nd corner person into promenade position.
25-28    Cpls dance round each other (pass Rt shoulder); continue promenade around so that cpl 1 end in 2nd on opposite sides.
29-32    Diagonal half rights and lefts with 1st corner persons (M up, L down).

Reel of the Royal Scots                    8 x 32 Reel
1-2    L1 & L2 turn by the left WHILE M1 & M2 turn by the right. Cpl 1 finish back to back in the centre of the set in 2nd place
3-4    Cpl 2, 1, & 3 set as in double triangles
5-6    L1 & L3 change places RH WHILE M1 & M3 change places LH
7-8    Cpl 2, 3 & 1 set as in double triangles
9-16    Cpl 1, followed by Cpl 3 dance up between Cpl 2 and cast off, dance down to 3rd place and cast up to 2nd place. Cpl 3 finish in original place
17-24    Cpl 1 turn 1st corners RH; pass each other RS; turn 2nd corners RH; pass RS crossing to 2nd place on own sides
25-32    Cpl 2, 1 and 3 dance 6 hands round and back.
