Member Biographies

Andy Alexander
Andy Alexander is a busy man. He is a trombone player with the Advocate Brass Band, Young At Heart Big Band, Jessamine County Jazz Ensemble, the Shriner’s Band, Noteables, & various church choirs & ensembles. Andy is a former member of the US Army Basic Training Band, Harrodstown Brass, and the Central Kentucky Concert Band. He was a member of the Harrodsburg High School band & choir programs until graduation in 1960. Andy completed the Army Training Academy & retired from the University of Kentucky where he served as Lead Computer Systems Analyst. Andy and his wife, Pat, have two children, Lee & Annie.

Mike Barnard
Mike Barnard has devoted many rewarding years to music and education. Mike attended DuPont Manual High School in Louisville and went on to earn his bachelors in music education and MA in education from EKU. He also completed a Rank I in Curriculum & Supervision as well as certifications to serve as a principal & superintendent. Mike recently retired from the Mercer County Schools as Assistant Superintendent and has returned to service in the schools on a part-time basis. Mike is a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church Praise Team and formerly served as Music Director there. Mike enjoys playing trumpet & golfing. He lives with his wife, Meg, and has five children and numerous grandchildren.

Tim Dailey
Trumpet player Tim Dailey balances academics and his responsibilities in the Music Department as a student at the University of Kentucky. Tim is a member of the UK Marching & Symphonic Bands, as well as the Trumpet and Jazz Ensembles. Tim is a former member of the Mercer County High School Band program where he performed in the marching, jazz & concert bands, as well as earning spots in the All-Regional & All-State Bands. He is a member of Delta Sigma Phi and MENC, the National Association for Music Education.

Duchess Freeman
Aside from playing trumpet, Duchess Freeman enjoys gardening, genealogy, and hiking. She attended Campbellsville High School, Campbellsville College, Morehead State University, and Western Kentucky University and has served as a pharmacy technician, research librarian, and medical secretary. She lives in Harrodsburg with her husband, Jerry, and her son Drew. Duchess also has a daughter, Mandy, and a stepson, Jerry Dale.

Jerry Freeman
Jerry Freeman graduated from Harrodsburg High School in 1963 and later returned to his alma mater as band director. He earned his Bachelors in Music Education and Masters Degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and was a founding member of the Harrodsburg Brass. Jerry plays baritone with the group and serves as conductor when necessary. Jerry retired from teaching but returned this year to teach general music and beginning band for the new unified Mercer County School system. Jerry is a member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association and lives in Harrodsburg with his wife and Harrodsburg Brass member, Duchess.

Shawn Markham
Trombone player Shawn Markham moved to Harrodsburg in 1992 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Shawn played in the concert band at WPI and at Norwich High School in upstate New York. Shawn serves as Forming Project Manager at Corning Incorporated and works a local farm with her husband, Brian, and two children, Lake & Pierce. Shawn’s third child is due in November, 2006.

Andy Reynolds
Music plays a big part in Andy Reynolds’ life. Andy works with numerous high school bands across Kentucky as an instructor and through his videography work as owner and Lead Video Production Specialist with “In Motion” Video Productions. Andy hails from Hopkinsville, KY and now shares a home in Danville with his wife, Eva, and their two children, Taylor & Emma. He plays euphonium with the Harrodsburg Brass and is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity.

Michael Sims
It’s never lonely at the bottom for tuba player Mike Sims. Mike has been playing with the Harrodsburg Brass since his high school years at Mercer County High School. He attended Eastern Kentucky University where he played in the tuba/euphonium ensemble, concert band, & marching band. Mike was also a member of the UK Wildcat Marching Band. Mike earned a BS in Police Administration from EKU in 2001. Mike lives with his wife, Bethany, in Mercer County. His numerous hobbies include ham radio, webpage design, and electronics. He works for the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet and the Emergency Management Agencies in Mercer and Boyle Counties. Mike also serves as videographer for "In Motion" Video Productions.
