My good friend, late 1973, early 1974
Jeri was a really sweet girl I last saw in early 1974 when she moved to Texas with her family. We were both military "brats," and sadly were used to saying goodbye to old friends and not looking back. I just learned (November 2005) that she died, tragically young, in January 2000 from a brain tumor. Only 43 years old! She was the first girl I ever dated, in the original, vastly more innocent sense of that word in 1970s Louisiana. She was full of spirit, humor, grace and vitality. She went through a short, reportedly unhappy first marriage and served her country in the Air Force 13 years. She remarried, and was happily so for 19 years until her death. I heard from a friend that Jeri's husband was a great comfort to her in her last days. He has my prayers and wishes for solace. She was a good friend and is missed. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with stories of Jeri.
