Boyle County Amateur Radio

The Wilderness Road Amateur Radio Club was founded in 196_.
With the financial support of the Boyle
County Fiscal Court and private donors, the WRARC purchased and installed Boyle
County's first ham radio repeater in 1981 under the club call WD4DZC. A new
repeater transceiver was purchased in 2003 and was relocated from the Inter-County
RECC communication tower to Parksville in 2005 with funds secured through Boyle Co.
Emergency Management. This 2-meter repeater operates at 145.310 MHz
providing coverage to Boyle and all surrounding counties.

The name for Boyle County was selected
in 1842 to honor Judge John Boyle, an able and prominent justice in
the first quarter of the nineteenth century. A state legislator for
three terms, Boyle turned down opportunities to serve as a
territorial governor and later as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. He
chose to serve the state, first as Chief Justice for nearly
seventeen years and then as a District Judge for Kentucky. Boyle
died in 1835.
The county is located in the
Bluegrass plateau area of central Kentucky, and was formed from
lands previously part of Mercer and Lincoln counties. The county
seat is at Danville. Points of interest include Constitution Square
Shrine, Herrington Lake and Centre College and Perryville
Battlefield.
