William Hawthorne Gantt b. 1/11/1844 is the Grandfather of John V, "Jack:" Gantt.   Although there were two generations of Gantts in the United States before William Hawthorne, he is the root tree that all of the present Gantts claim that they branch out from.
 
The William Hawthorne Gantts owned a large farm about half way between Pickens, SC and Liberty, SC.  They raised nine children.  Elmer Eddy b.1/11/1844;Lula Belle 5/1868); William Nathanill b.3/22/1873; James Mondozan         b, 6/21/1875; Lizzie Dell b. 2/22/1878; Minnie Mell b. 9/3/1880; John Pharis b.5/24/1884; Charles Gideon b. 8/14/1887;Nicie Nell         b. 7/31/1889  They had one child to die at birth,
 
The old homeplace still stands, but it has been remodeled to such an extent that it cannot be recognized as the same house that the Gantt's lived in. The house  is no longer owned by  the family and only a small portion of the land is still owned by the Gantt family.
