JOHN McDONOGH DAY
This 122nd annual event honors public school philanthropist John McDonogh. In return for his legacy of 39 public schools, all he asked was that students place flowers around his grave annually. McDonogh No. 26 School is the last school still honoring this tradition.

Directions to McDonogh Day from the East Bank and New Orleans:
Take the Crescent City Connection, right lane, to the LA 428 General DeGaulle Drive exit, and use the WEST exit on the right. Continue to keep right after taking the western exit. Use General DeGaulle Drive (which becomes Burmaster Street upon entering Gretna) to Hancock Street, and take a right. Note that Hancock Street is two-way traffic on both sides. The cemetery is on the right side at Americus Street. Parking is available on area streets. Parking is not allowed in the cemetery.
