| I think that God may be calling me into full-time ministry. Right now, I'm a freshman in college with a non-ministry major. How do I know for sure that God wants me to be a pastor, missionary, or whatever? Is there a Bible verse that can help me make the decision? | ||
| I would say that there's not a specific "passage" that will answer your
question about a life's calling, as much as it is an attitude that you have
to the will of God. If you are open to whatever God has, and are doing
everything you know to do right now in your relationship with the Lord, then
relax and let God build your desires and open doors. Proverbs 3:5-6 remind
us to trust in the Lord and He will direct our paths. Pr. 37:4 says to
delight ourselves in the Lord, and he will give us the desires of our
hearts. "Delight" there means soft, delicate. We stay "soft" towards God,
and He guides us. If you are wanting God's will, and are right with Him, then ask yourself, "What do I WANT to do?" Do you enjoy the prospect of ministry? Have you tried it? What kind of ministry are you involved in now? Is it possible for you to be involved in your church this summer, maybe even an intern? Talk to your pastor, let him know you are trying to discover God's will, and see if he (or another staff member) can take you under wing and work with you for a summer. That will give you a taste of full time ministry, and allow God to work in your heart. If God is calling you, there will eventually be a desire for that ministry (I Tim 3:1 - "If a man DESIRE the office...") Give God a chance to build that desire. In the meantime, relax. You won't change your major this semester, and your current classes will remain the same. Do your best where you are, and don't get distracted. You have plenty of time to make a decision.
