AM History Profile: WTKI

History:
WTKI was WFUN around 1959, when they were paid big bucks to change to WFIX and let a Miami top 40 station on 790 have the Fun Radio calls. Stayed WFIX into the 90's. At some point the station changed to a news talk format from whatever it had been in the 90's. It also aquired the WTKI calls. In the summer of 2001, the station switched to a classic country format. In the summer of 2002 the station switched to a new talk format with a focus on healthy living. The calls became WHOH (Heart of Huntsville) with a "Relationship Radio" slogan. That didn't seem to last too long, because by 2005 it was back to the WTKI calls with ESPN radio's sports format. The station's ownership appears to have been changed to Christian Voice of Central Ohio, Inc., in February 2007. At some point in 2007 the station flipped formats again, this time simulcasting WDPT in Decatur, as "ProTalk 1450/1490".

It was reported in early February 2009 that both WTKI and WDPT were shut down by the owners, citing the downturned economy as a reason they could no longer operate.
