History:
Station began in the mid 80's as a country music outlet. In the past few years the format has been southern gospel. As of June 1999, the station has moved to a satellite fed "Music of Your Life" nostalgia format with the name "Uptown 1000".  ("I can no more explain this handle than 'The Monkey' in Gulfport" - Alex) The station didn't last long as Uptown 1000, it's now Dixie 1000, with country oldies and new calls - WDXZ.  Late summer 2002 and this station, still calling itself Dixie 1000, has begun simulcasting the black oldies of WYDH-FM in Atmore, along with WBCA-AM in Bay Minette. WYDH went back to classic country recently, and WDXZ followed. Continuing with the change-a-week format, the station switched to the WNSI calls and news and talk in April 2004.
