FM History Profile: WHRP

History:
History of this station is pretty much unknown. It is a simulcast of another area lower power FM station, licensed to Trinity.
From a site contributor, this information on a swap-sale idea being tossed around radio world: "In a dizzying fruitbasket turnover, rivals Clear Channel and Cumulus have agreed to a station sale that goes like this:  Clear Channel would sell WWXQ and WXQW to Cumulus for $3.3 million.  As part of the deal, Cumulus agrees not to oppose Clear Channel's proposed move of WLAY-FM from Tuscumbia to Huntsville.  Confused yet?  Wait, there's more!  Also as part of the deal, Cumulus would get to relocate the WHRP-FM antenna (which I believe is currently located near Winchester, TN) onto Clear Channel's WDRM-FM tower in Huntsville."
.
On April 5th 2006 this station went silent, then began simulcasting WHRP-FM with a urban format. The oldies format moved to WLAY-FM, 100.3. The station currently has a construction permit to relicense to the town of Gurley, with a drop in antenna height and increase in power. The coverage area does not appear to change very much.  As of January 2008, the station has taken the WHRP calls from 93.3 and the WXQW calls moved to 660 AM in Fairhope (!)
