FM History Profile: WALX
-
History:
-
This station started
off as WKLF-FM in Clanton in the late 50's. It was later moved to Selma,
and the calls were eventually changed to WALX (ALeXander Broadcasting).
The format virtually duplicated that of then-WDAL 101.3 FM in Meridian,
with beautiful music. When the resident beautiful music station in Montgomery
increased power, WALX changed to a format with a unique mix of AC, top
40, hot AC and the occasional oldie ever since. They added the Laser 101
moniker when CDs and digital music took over.

In the spring of 2006
the station aquired a construction permit to change their city of license
only, from Selma to Orrville, for reasons unknown! In late February 2007
they picked up Rick and Bubba. In February 2009 the FCC granted the COL
change. The station is now licensed to Orrville. On March 24th
2009 the station flipped from its long-time unique format to a variety
hits "Jack FM" type format, now known as "Alex FM". They have a promotional
Facebook
page (membership required) as well.
