What you are viewing is one of the most
destructive weapons platforms known to mankind for it's era. This
Titian II Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile carried the largest nuclear
warhead in our defensive inventory.
These missiles were in underground silos in three
locations in the United States. Eighteen each of these deadly
missiles were in Arkansas, Arizona, and Kansas.
I was in Missile Safety and had the responsibility
for the day to day safety operations for the eighteen missiles in
Arkansas.
Our home base was Little Rock AFB, Arkansas.
These eighteen missiles were spread out in a fan-shape pattern across
northern Arkansas. The longest driving distance to one of these
complexes from base proper was 72 miles.
