“Burgoyne Surrounded”
Every quilt has a story…
This quilt pattern,
“Burgoyne Surrounded”, depicts a key event from the American Revolution.
The regiments of Redcoats from the British armies of General John
Burgoyne, marching from
Canada
,
and General Howe, marching from
New
York
converged in
Saratoga
.
New England militiamen, though vastly outnumbered, surrounded General
Burgoyne’s troops. News of
the British surrender at
Saratoga
was instrumental in bringing formal support from
France
and
Spain
for the young American army.
This “Burgoyne
Surrounded” quilt was created to honor the
Georgia
Sons of the American Revolution and to thank them for their support of our
Quilts of Valor efforts.
The
Mission
of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover
ALL
those service-
members and veterans touched by war with Wartime Quilts called Quilts of
Valor.
